Ulster Bank has unveiled plans to hire 100 new people to boost its call centre operations in Belfast. Ireland.

The hiring will be made between now and the end of April and raise the total headcount at the call centre to 500.

Ulster Bank, which is a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), has 44 branches in Northern Ireland.

The new customer service agents will support RBS group customers across Britain and Ireland in web, social media and telephone roles.

RBS & Ulster Bank customer experience lead Joanne Wilson said: “These new roles will help us in our commitment to deliver outstanding service to customers.

“The jobs will provide a fantastic opportunity for a wide range of people to join an award-winning customer contact centre team based in a modern, vibrant new city centre office environment.”

The contact centre was first located in South Belfast. It will be relocated to the bank’s east headquarters in Donegall Square as part of the bank’s multi-million-pound investment plan.

Employees presently working in the South Belfast location will also be moved to the east headquarters.

Ulster Bank Northern Ireland head Mark Crimmins said: “We are making a significant investment in the centre of Belfast which will upgrade office space for our team, help us create new employment locally, and bring hundreds of more people into the city centre of Belfast.

“This is a hugely positive development for Ulster Bank as well as for the city and Northern Ireland.

“The decision by RBS to locate customer service jobs for the wider bank in Belfast is also recognition of the continuing excellent standards being set by our Belfast team.”

Last week, reports emerged that RBS is planning to cuts thousands of jobs at Natwest as a part of its cost-cutting strategies.

According to media reports, RBS’ digital banking platform CEO Mark Bailie is also preparing to leave the organisation.
