African financial services group Standard Bank has deployed RiskIQ product suite to automate identification and threat analysis of brand infringement, web-based attacks and cybercrimes against its digital segment.

With a presence in more than 20 countries, the bank offers the full range of banking and other financial services.

The online presence of Standard Bank is spread across web, mobile and social channels where it is becoming increasingly difficult to include all its assets under their security programme.

Accordingly, to carry out automated threat analysis of the full digital presence, Standard Bank will utilise RiskIQ Digital Footprint and RiskIQ External Threats solutions.

Standard Bank PBB IT Security head Robin Barnwell said: “The intelligence provided by RiskIQ has enabled visibility and collaboration between our central and decentralised teams to continually improve our security posture and protect the bank and our customers from cyber threats.”

Under the collaboration, RiskIQ offers in-depth information about Standard Bank’s digital assets notifying potential risks.

Using this data, the Standard Bank security team will ensure compliance with corporate standards and central visibility of all its digital assets.

The team also leverages RiskIQ intelligence to update domain and certificate registrations as well as identify and update older untrusted certificates across its digital portfolio.

Furthermore, Standard Bank is using Mobile Threats and Domain Infringement of RiskIQ’s External Threats solution to detect brand-related threats, following which, the team determines the locations where apps are published and then request the removal of the same from unauthorised stores.

The security team of the bank, along with their marketing section, started monitoring all social media accounts such as corporate accounts, brand accounts and the social profiles if top executives.

The effort is directed to prevent any malicious phishing and credential-harvesting campaigns that can damage user trust and brand perception.
