Fintech company SBS has introduced the SBS AI Foundation, a platform designed for generative and agentic AI applications in core banking.

Built on NVIDIA infrastructure, it allows banks to run AI within their own controlled environments, including private cloud, managed cloud, and fully on-premises deployments.

The platform is already in production at Scottish Building Society, a long-standing SBS client in the UK, where it runs on Amazon Web Services.

SBS is now making the platform available to the hundreds of financial institutions it serves globally.

The SBS AI Foundation uses NIM microservices for its AI layer and NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails to keep responses within each bank’s regulatory parameters.

It connects data held across SBS systems, including core banking, lending, digital banking, and regulatory reporting, so that it can be used by generative AI applications and autonomous agents.

The platform covers three areas of banking operations.

It applies generative AI to an institution’s own data to support customer onboarding and engagement.

By using a bank’s records and product portfolio, it can identify suitable products for individual customers and assist with timing, personalisation, operational efficiency, product design, and time-to-value through Explainable AI (XAI).

It includes a natural language intelligence function for data analysis. The generative AI co-pilot converts queries involving structured and unstructured data into insights.

The third area is sovereign risk intelligence. The platform monitors risk and compliance exposure and produces a complete regulatory audit trail while keeping risk data within the institution’s-controlled environment.

SBS also unveiled plans to add agentic AI capabilities to the platform in the “near future”.

These will use autonomous agents to carry out multi-step banking workflows, with human oversight and controls operating within a governed environment.
