Russian lender Sberbank has made a series of announcements and new additions to its non-banking services as the lender transitions from its core banking business.

Sberbank, a bank with $521.5bn (RUB36.8trn) in assets, has unveiled a second supercomputer.

The supercomputer, called Christofari Neo, will be used for training and inference.

Sberbank executive vice president and CTO of Sberbank Group David Rafalovsky said: “The Christofari Neo supercomputer will enable Sber to bring computing speeds to the next level, unlocking new opportunities for us to implement breakthrough services and products with underlying cutting-edge technology.

“SberCloud’s current and new customers will have access to the capacities of two supercomputers at once. The important thing that has remained unchanged is the ease of use of the new supercomputer since Christofari Neo is closely integrated with the ML Space and Christofari platforms.”

The state-owned lender is also working with other Russian companies to develop an ecosystem of services aside from core banking.

This, according to the bank, will help address shrinking margins of traditional banks.

The lender has also organised a three-day international online conference on AI.

Here, it will prioritise the development of various technologies such as artificial general intelligence (AGI), speech analytics, natural language processing (NLP), recommender systems, automated machine learning (AutoML), as well as computer vision.
