UK’s NatWest and RBS have gone mobile with the launch of bank on wheels, a strategy to make banking more convenient and accessible for its customers.

Currently, both RBS and NatWest operate a fleet of 19 mobile banking vans on the road that visit 357 communities and cover 7,000 miles each week around the UK.

The bank on wheels offers easy access to banking facilities for customers who for a variety of reasons might struggle to get to their nearest branch.

RBS has spent nearly £600,000 for purchasing five new mobile banking vans, equipped with some of the latest technology, including iPads for customer use.

The lender said that all five vans will cover new routes, and allow flexibility for the existing mobile fleet to extend their range to new areas.

Jane Paterson, who is in charge of rolling out the new fleet of high tech vans, said that the new vans are "very different in look and feel". The vans are equipped with a satellite dish on the roof.

"The satellite means that even in areas where there’s no normal broadband coverage, customers will be able to take advantage of online banking," Paterson added.

"For disabled customers, the vans go right up to their gates, or front door if possible. They take the service to the customer."
