Standard Chartered (StanChart) has scooped the top honour at RBI’s annual industry awards: Global Retail Bank of the Year.

StanChart also received the award for Best Online banking strategy.

Royal Bank of Canada, BNP Paribas Fortis, ABSA, Dubai Islamic Bank, Itau Unibanco and DBS each won regional awards for retail banking excellence.

RBI received nominations from and on behalf of just under 300 banks.

Cutting down the nominations to a shortlist of five banks for each category brought out 62 separate banks shortlisted across the 22 Awards categories.

“A large number of the entries had clearly been very carefully thought out and did the Awards proud in terms of the attention to detail.

“Selecting the final winner in a large number of the Awards categories was no easy task.

“Stan Chart was a worthy winner of the Award for leading retail bank in 2011, having posted record profits for the 9^th successive year.”
