Standard Chartered (StanChart) is aiming
to double customer numbers in Malaysia by 2015, according to
Anupam Shrivastava, its regional head of retail banking
products.

Shrivastava said that the main contributor
to the growth in the customer base would the bank’s iPhone app,
Breeze, which will be available in Malaysia at the beginning of
2011.

Breeze was initially launched by StanChart
in Singapore in May.

Shrivastava said that Breeze was a “key
customer touch-point” that would contribute to growth in
Malaysia.

“It is the first such application that
completely mirrors the capabilities of normal internet banking,”
said Shrivastava.

StanChart Malaysia’s head of remote
banking, Aman Narain, said that “most, if not all of our customers,
in the medium term, will be using this (mobile)
channel.”
