Malaysian lender Maybank has launched new services on its online banking platform Maybank2u (M2u) in order to boost operational efficiency.

The new banking services include instant decisions for credit cards, bill presentment on mobile, QuickTouch for Android devices as well as a transaction banking site in Bahasa Malaysia, all of which aim to reduce the time required for account opening and card application.

For account opening, customers need to fill in their details through the M2u platform and submit them online for processing by the bank. Following submission of application, customers will receive a notification on their mobiles, after which they can select which branch to maintain their account and visit the branch for customer due diligence verification.

Customers can also apply for new cards, balance transfer and EzyPay Plus via M2u, with applications processed instantly.

The bill presentment service allows customers to download bills directly from M2u and view the last three bill payments. The service is currently available for Astro, Celcom, Telekom Malaysia and Tenanag Nasional, with plans on to add more corporations eventually.

The Quick Touch for Android will help customers to check their balances with a biometric fingerprint scan on their Android devices through the bank’s M2u app. The service is scheduled to be introduced in March.

Maybank head of community financial services, Malaysia, Datuk Hamirullah Boorhan said: "Online banking has become a trend for people from all walks of life and they are increasingly transacting over this channel. M2u currently records transactions to the value of RM174 billion a year with the volume of transactions growing by about 30%."
