Lloyds Banking Group subsidiary Halifax has
launched its mobile banking app that has already gained number one
position under Finance apps on the iTunes App Store, according to
the lender.

The new mobile banking app has been launched
in response to the “fast-growing use of Smartphone across the UK”
as current research shows that more than 36% of UK consumers use a
smartphone compared to less than one in 10 (9%) two years ago,
Halifax has said.

The research also reveals that almost one in
five smartphone owners (18%) prefer using apps rather than internet
browsers on their handsets, according to Halifax.

David Nicholson, group director for Halifax
Community Bank, said, that apps that provide customers with
everything they need in one place are “more popular than ever”
now.

“This is another example of Halifax delivering
new and innovative ways to support our customers, ensuring
advancements in technology can be used to improve our customers
experience.”

Halifax’s mobile banking app will enable users to access and
manage money while on the go, locate a nearby branch and find a
Halifax ATM or any of the 72,000 LINK ATMs belonging to any bank
across the UK.

The Halifax mobile banking app aims to enable
customers to access their money and manage their accounts using the
most commonly used features of online banking, and Halifax confirms
that mobile security will be treated “as seriously as desktop
security”.

Customers will not be charged for Halifax’s
new app but mobile operators may charge for some services.
