UAE-based Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has rolled out ‘Smart Bank’, a new customer centric proposition to offer improved banking services to its customers.

As part of the transformation of Dubai into a ‘Smart City’, the ‘Smart Bank’ concept will establish new benchmarks in the field of customer interaction by making it quick, seamless and even pleasurable, claims DIB.

Commenting on the new initiative, DIB CEO Dr. Adnan Chilwan said, "This novel and innovative idea is an extension of our Customer First program built around customer centricity and focus."

"Fully aligned with Dubai’s long term ambitions, we are committed to transforming the banking service industry through an extensive and innovative use of technology leading to a completely new and refreshing experience for all our customers and stakeholders," Chilwan added.

Under the Smart Bank concept, the lender will promote use of paperless transactions, whereby the customers will be able to complete their banking transactions at DIB branches electronically through an entirely seamless process with faster turnaround times.

Further, levergaing the new banking technology, customers can carry out their account opening formalities and receive ATM cards and cheque books within 15-20 minutes.

The bank noted that system integration with the Emirates Identity Authority allows uploading of customer information directly from the Emirates ID cards into the bank’s systems.

Without the need of filling forms, customer transactions are executed using handheld electronic devices with digital signatures taken for secure and efficient processing.

DIB has already introduced the paperless, smart bank experience for customers across 12 of its branches in the UAE, while considering to launch it across its entire network of 90 branches by 2014 October end.

As part of Smart Bank proposal, the bank signed a deal with Dubai Smart Government (DSG) which will electronically link the Government’s Resources Planning (GRP) Systems and Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) to automate the financial processes for government suppliers and salary payments.

Following complete automation of electronic payments with DIB, it will enable staff at any government entity to send the due payments to suppliers and the salaries of employees directly using the automated and fully integrated platform offered by DIB.
