CYBG, the owner of Clydesdale Bank, Yorkshire Bank and the app-based bank B in the UK, has launched a new technology that enables customers to pay in cheques using mobile banking app B.

The deposited cheques will be cleared the app by the end of next working day, eliminating the need for customers to visit a branch.

The move follows the phased roll-out of image-based cheque clearing system by Cheque and Credit Clearing Company a across all UK banks.

CYBG said that its customers can process cheques of up to £500 by sending a picture of a cheque on their mobile device through its 128-bit SSL encrypted banking app.

The bank added that will continue to give customers the choice to pay in a cheque, as they do currently.

CYBG CIO Fraser Ingram said: “CYBG’s new iB platform is allowing us to deliver these kind of changes to customers faster and more efficiently than ever before – giving customers greater choice and convenience with their banking.
