rewards promotions for its affluent credit cardholders.

Citibank’s executive
vice-president, Terry O’Neil, told RBI about the bank’s
latest sweepstakes campaign and other customer-centric initiatives
to make this holiday season “special”.

“To help customers spend wisely and
get more value, we launched Citi Specials, a new shopping portal
that provides great deals on shopping and travel for Citi credit
card members and Citibank Debit MasterCard customers,” he said. “In
addition, we also have the Citi Bonus Cash Centre and the Citi
ThankYou Bonus Centre where eligible card members and ThankYou
members can earn cash back and rewards points with more than 400
top online and in-store merchants.”

O’Neil added that the bank also
wanted to reward customers and launched a holiday sweepstakes, in
which Citi cards customers can win a prepaid card worth anything
from $10 to $10,000.

“The sweepstakes are a great way to
give our customers a chance to get a little something extra for
using their Citi card during the holidays.

“We also wanted to provide the
opportunity to give back so we partnered with Toys for Tots, an
organisation in the US that donates toys to children in need. We
are encouraging consumers to visit Citi’s Facebook page and post a
story about a favourite childhood toy.”

posted, Citi will donate $10 to Toys for Tots, a maximum of
$100,000, O’Neil said. He added the sweepstakes campaign was a
fully integrated promotion including above-the-line, out-of-home,
digital and direct mail.

In addition, Citi hosted pop-up
events in major shopping areas in New York, Chicago and Los
Angeles, where it donated $10 to Toys for Tots every time a
consumer stopped by to have their photo taken.

The bank also used Twitter to
promote money-saving deals on shopping and travel for Citi credit
card members and Citibank Debit MasterCard customers.

O’Neil said that one of the most
critical aspects developing a new product, service or promotion was
to listen to customers.

“I fundamentally believe that
understanding the customer experience and hearing their feedback is
a critical part of developing and delivering the right products and
solutions to meet their needs,” he said.

Looking back at 2010, O’Neil said
he had been “particularly excited” about the 2G credit card, which
features a microprocessor inside to redeem rewards points right at
the point of sale.

“We are in pilot now and the
feedback has been terrific,” he said.

He added that one of Citibank’s top
priorities in 2011 was to continue to introduce “innovative
products”.

O’Neil said: “Technology is paving the way for us to provide
greater control, flexibility and options for our customers. Next
year, we will continue to introduce enhancements, promotions and
new products to keep our customers engaged, help them manage their
money wisely and let them know how much we appreciate them.”
