Capital One Bank is set to close five branches in the greater New Orleans area, as part of its ongoing strategy to improve company-wide operational efficiency.

The five branches slated for closure in mid-October 2015 are located in Bogalusa, Madisonville, Pearl River, Kenner and Chalmette.

Following the closure, customers’ accounts will be transferred to the nearest Capital One branch.

The employees affected by the closure have already been notified about the move in June 2015 in order to give them time to apply for other positions within or outside the bank.

According to Capital One spokesman Steven Thorpe, the changes would enable the lender to operate "as efficiently as possible while continuing to provide quality services and products to its customers."

The bank operates with about 50 branches in the greater New Orleans metro area.
