India-based private sector lender Axis Bank is planning to make work-from-home (WFH) an integral part of its work culture even after the coronavirus (Covid-19) subsides.

The move is in line with the bank’s strategy to allow employees to work from home for two-to-five days in a week.

According to sources, currently, 12,000 of the bank’s employees are working from the offices across the country.

Most of these are non-customer facing roles, for which the WFH model can be implemented, the bank said.

As part of a pilot, Axis Bank has already implemented the WFH model for HR and compliance departments, followed by risk and corporate credit departments in the next stage.

Over the next six weeks, the company will roll out the WFH model for the entire bank.

However, employees under positions like treasury front-end and control operations, and information technology (IT) will continue to work from the offices.

Axis Bank executive director Rajesh Dahiya said: “Adapting to work from home is going to provide lots of opportunities to attract varied talent pools, break geographical boundaries, give more choices in hands of employees and is going to lead to more structured, measurable, efficient and smart workplace.”

Following the lifting of lockdown on 17 May, the bank is also planning to open its branches in three phases.

In the first phase, only 10% of employees will be allowed to work from offices.

In the second phase, from 1 June to 15 July, 30% of employees will work from offices. In the final phase, 60% of employees will return to offices.
