A recently filed patent (Publication Number: US20230208904A1) describes a controller for network analysis. The controller includes network analysis circuitry that can detect devices on a network, monitor network conditions, and provide data to a device management circuitry. The device management circuitry then determines characteristics of the network based on the data received from the network analysis circuitry and prepares suggested optimizations or troubleshooting measures. Additionally, the controller includes remote management circuitry that provides a remote interface for visualizing the data generated by the device management circuitry and the network analysis circuitry, including the suggested optimizations or troubleshooting measures.

The controller also includes a rules engine that can monitor event messages and/or a set of message metadata to determine whether specific rule criteria have been met. A rule authoring component allows users to specify the rule criteria and actions to be taken in response to them. The controller can take various actions based on the rule criteria being met, such as generating notifications to external systems or devices, initiating traffic monitoring operations, blocking devices, triggering cameras, offering users to purchase obsolete or unused devices, or notifying about incompatible or sub-optimal devices based on the network configuration.

Furthermore, the controller includes a premises mapper component that can execute a mapping operation in conjunction with user devices. It can detect and monitor network bandwidth, network connection and disconnection events, IP conflicts, and the presence of certain types and quantities of data packets. The network analysis circuitry can detect network data in a promiscuous manner by receiving and analyzing packets not intended for the controller. It can generate electronic information notifying the device management circuitry of newly detected devices and provide an indication of whether these devices are authorized. The controller can also detect unauthorized devices entering the network and store device information in a data structure to indicate device type, network metrics, and authorization status.

In addition to the controller, the patent also describes methods for providing troubleshooting information and troubleshooting device performance. These methods involve receiving event messages, analyzing them to determine network status information, generating network status information, and providing it to a dashboard that displays the status of devices connected to the network and troubleshooting information. The methods also include triangulating performance from multiple devices, monitoring event messages and message metadata, and storing device information in a data structure.

Overall, this patent describes a controller and methods that can effectively analyze and manage networks, provide troubleshooting information, and optimize network performance.
