Yorkshire Building Society has revamped its website using a ‘responsive’ design, aiming for the site to automatically adapt to predefined screens.

According to the lender the redesign has resulted to a 26% increase in traffic from mobile devices.

This move is expected to facilitate the Society’s 3.5m members, by allowing them to access its website using their mobile phones and tablet devices.

Jon Taylor, senior e-commerce manager at Yorkshire Building Society said: "We know our members increasingly want information at the touch of a button, and often on-the-go, so as part of our commitment to making things easy and simple. It was important that we invested in such technology."

The building society has also reported that new design has made customers’ search for their nearest YBS branch more popular. After the revamp, visits to the site for looking to locate a branch recorded a 22% rise.

The Society is planning a second phase of website improvements in 2014, incorporating cutting-edge technology to more services and products. The online mortgage application process will be enhanced and there are plans to introduce video conferencing with customers.
