Banking giant HSBC has apologized for online banking outage that affected its millions of personal and business customers in Britain.

A statement released by the bank said that personal banking online services are returning steadily to service after a blackout and they will not ‘lose out’.

While the bank has not explained the cause of the glitch, HSBC’s UK COO John Hackett said that the outage was not due to a cyber-attack or any other malicious act.

The bank said that its team is regularly working to restore the services but did not give any time frame when full service will resume.

Hackett said: "We will ensure customers do not lose out as a result of this issue. Any fees customers incur as a result of this outage will be waived."

HSBC spokesperson said: "We are currently experiencing issues with our Online and Mobile banking. Personal Mobile banking is working but due to high demand customers may experience delays."
