British technology company Intelligent Environments has launched the first digital pass-code that uses emojis instead of a PIN or password to authenticate online banking transactions.
The new concept is based around the theory that people find it easier to remember images than numbers.
The technology, which is claimed to be mathematically more secure than four-digit PIN, will offer users more than 44 symbols to choose from.
Intelligent Environments’ Emoji Passcode will have 480 times more unique permutations of non-repeating emojis, as compared to 7,290 unique permutations of four non-repeating numbers and will prevent hackers from figuring out easily obtainable numerical passwords based on date of birth or wedding anniversary.
Emoji Passcode will be integrated into Intelligent Environments’ digital banking app available on Android platform.
Memory expert and Mind Map technique inventor Tony Buzan said: "The Emoji Passcode plays to humans’ extraordinary ability to remember pictures, which is anchored in our evolutionary history. We remember more information when it’s in pictorial form, that’s why the Emoji Passcode is better than traditional PINs."
