Business analytics software provider SAS has
released a high-performance computing platform to cope with the
enormous data growth in velocity, variety and volume, or ‘Big
Data’.

SAS’ analytics software, in partnership with
hardware from partners Teradata and EMC Greenplum, combines
in-memory analytics with in-database technology.

Speaking at the SAS-sponsored Premier Business
Leadership Series (PBLS) in Florida on 26 October, Scott Gnau,
president of Teradata Labs said:

“Leading companies understand that the ability
to operationalise analytics is a requirement for improving business
decisions and delivering world-class performance.

“Leveraging our parallel processing and
extreme data management capabilities, SAS and Teradata have
deployed a portfolio of solutions to the market, delivering quicker
insight and unmatched business value. 

“Now we’re adding SAS High-Performance
Analytics on Teradata to further increase analysts’ productivity
and capabilities.”

SAS tested the new application with an Asia
Pacific-based bank with more than 100,000 scenarios analysed in
less than 30 minutes, calculating on-demand, intra-day portfolio
risk. 

In early October, rival Oracle announced the
release of its own in-memory server for business intelligence.

In a separate announcement at PBLS Florida,
SAS announced upgrades to its SAS Conversation Center, a key
application of SAS social media analytics on twitter.

The software helps firms to engage with
customers on twitter by capturing significant tweets in real time,
analysing them and routing them to the right department within an
organisation to respond.

Wilson Raj, SAS global product marketing
principal for customer intelligence, said:
