Canada’s banking and payments industry registered a 1.8% rise in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 1.36% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the banking and payments industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 14.75% share in November 2021, recording a decrease of 0.21% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 59.88% in November 2021, registering a 3.45% growth over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 18.1% share, an increase of 4.21% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 9.78%, registering a 16% decline from October 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 9.12%, down 9.87% over the previous month.

Top five banking and payments companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 0.21% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s banking and payments industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

The Bank of Nova Scotia posted 329 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a drop of 6.8% over the previous month, followed by Royal Bank of Canada with 285 jobs and a 15.93% drop. Citigroup with 160 IT jobs and Desjardins Group with 96 jobs, recorded a 60% growth and a 20% growth, respectively, while Bank of Montreal recorded an increase of 5.13% with 82 job postings during November 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 55.89%, down by 7.79% from October 2021. Mid Level positions with a 32.4% share, registered an increase of 11.44% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 8.58% share, down 9.79% over October 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 3.13%, recording a month-on-month increase of 62.07%.
