Sri Lanka-based People’s Bank has enhanced its mobile banking network by deploying Etisalat solution, allowing customers to access most of its facilities on the go while eliminating the need to visit bank’s branches.

Some of the improved mobile banking services include enquiry of account balances, history utility payments, fund transfers, cheque transaction details, and cheque book ordering among others.

People’s Bank CEO and general manager, Vasantha Kumar, was quoted by The Island as saying that their mobile banking services allows their customers to access a range of everyday banking transactions from the convenience of their mobile.

"Services include checking the last five transactions, exchange rates and requesting for pawning settlements," Kumar added.

Etisalat Lanka deputy CEO, Riyaaz Rasheed, said this partnership with People’s bank allows Etisalat to enter into the financial services space.

"We as a telecom provider need to keep in pace with global and local technology advancements. At the same time customers across the globe are looking for banking and transactional services via mobile phones and with People’s Bank we are able to provide this service to the customer to make their banking transactions easy and convenient," Rasheed added.
