TSB Banking Group’s chairman Will Samuel sought Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority to start a probe into banking the sector.

Addressing a banking conference in London, Samuel said: "We hope that the CMA will push ahead with a full market review focusing on substantive structural reforms as well as behavioural remedies. What we want to see is effective competition in retail banking."

At present, Britain’s competition watchdog is consulting on whether to carry out investigations into the personal current account and small business banking markets, reports Reuters.

TSB Banking Group operates through two segments – TSB Franchise and Mortgage Enhancement, and offers retail banking services to retail and small business banking customers in the UK.
