Barclays has launched a new community banking service, wherein UK customers will get access to branch services anywhere and at any time.
The new service, touted to be a first for UK, will enable all community bankers set up a branch remotely using their iPad, Wi-Fi or 3G connection.
The service will allow colleagues to conduct traditional branch transactions such as money transfers, changes to personal details as well as account openings.
Barclays personal banking CEO Steven Cooper said, "Alongside the availability of our colleagues in traditional branches, through video, mobile, telephone, and social media, this new pioneering technology will allow colleagues to access branch services securely in minutes anywhere and at any time – whether it’s in a local village hall, library or community centre, we can now take the branch to the customer."
At present, the service is being trialed with 50 community bankers and specialists, including Mortgage, Premier and Business advisors across Sunderland, Norfolk and London.
The new service is scheduled to be rolled out to all equipped Barclays bank iPads nationally by the middle of this year.
