Citi has joined forces with IBM to work with developers and create the next generation of financial technology (FinTech) through the Citi Mobile Challenge.

Launched last year, the Citi Mobile Challenge is a global virtual competition that aims to gather together innovative developers and technology sponsors to develop a unique, global developer ecosystem.

Under the new collaboration, IBM will provide access to its digital innovation platform Bluemix, as well as mentorship tutorials for Citi Mobile Challenge participants to help them build, test and deploy their FinTech solutions.

Bluemix, which runs on SoftLayer cloud infrastructure, integrates IBM’s middleware software with tools from IBM’s partner ecosystem to provide DevOps in the cloud.

The platform, with access to services and APIs from across the technology industry, allows developers pace up application deployment.

IBM will help participants selecting Bluemix to build applications and help them master cloud-based development with face-to-face and virtual product demonstrations, mobile app design guidance, consulting as well as coding assistance.

Citi chief client experience, digital and marketing officer for Global Consumer Banking Heather Cox said: "IBM’s recognition that the Citi Mobile Challenge is fostering the development of the next generation of FinTech solutions serves as great validation of our efforts to accelerate and lead digital innovation.

"More importantly, the platform of development tools IBM will make available to Challenge participants will go a long way towards helping them turn their creative ideas into innovative realities."
