Santander has launched a new service that allows clients to receive mortgage advice through a video link.

The service, available in the bank’s 63 branches in the UK, was trialled last year.

Santander managing director of mortgages Miguel Sard said: “For most people, a mortgage is one of the biggest financial commitments they will make in their lifetime.

“We know that customers value speaking to a mortgage adviser who will explain what options are available to them and recommend a product to meet their individual needs.”

Currently, customers need to visit a branch to avail the new service. However, plans are on to extend the service and allow customers to connect with mortgage advisors via video link from their own PC by the end of 2017.

The launch of the new service comes in the wake of the bank’s announcement in its results that net mortgage lending dropped by £400m during the first three months of 2017.
