Santander has selected technology vendor IBM to develop a suite of iOS apps for its employees to drive customer engagement.

The custom-built IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps will support employees serving Santander's corporate, SME, private as well as retail banking customers.

IBM will use Apple's programming language Swift to develop the iOS apps, which will then be integrated with the enterprise systems of the bank.

The vendor said that the first set of apps will be designed to allow branch office managers and territory supervisors monitor achievement indicators, will offer operators mobile access to metrics for capital requirements and risk management, and will also allow managers to access risk policies and industry reports available in the bank.

Banco Santander managing director T&O area Javier Cuenca said: "Innovation is one of Banco Santander's identity signs. Collaborating with IBM will help us accelerate our digital transformation and improve the client experience to anticipate customer needs."

The first set of apps is expected to be launched in April, with new apps expected to be developed during the next two years.
