UK mobile banking growth has soared by 86%
in the past year according to digital consultancy
comScore.

In the three month period to end December
2011, over 4.8m UK smartphone users accessed their bank accounts
on-the-go, compared to 2.6m in the same quarter a year
ago.

Amongst the nearly 20% of UK smartphone
owners using online banking via their mobile device, a growing
number is accessing these services on a daily basis.

The number of daily users rose by 136%
since last year, with 889,000 smartphone users (3.5% of the total
smartphone audience) making use of the service in December
2011.

According to comScore, the Netherlands and
France have the highest penetration of internet banking users in
Europe.

Online banking sites reached 66.3% of the
total internet audience in the Netherlands ahead of France with
59.9%.

Sweden ranked third with 55.9% ahead of
the UK and Finland (53.2% and 53.1% respectively).

Across Europe, 147.5m internet users
visited online banking sites in December, representing 38.7% of the
total internet audience.

In addition to the Netherlands having the
highest online banking penetration, Dutch bank ING ranked as the
leading online banking website in Europe, attracting 11.2m unique
visitors during December.

Ranking as a close second was the online
channel for France-based Crédit Agricole with 10.7m unique
visitors. Lloyds Banking Group rounded up the top three with 9.4m
visitors during the month, ahead of Societe Generale with 8.6m and
Germany’s Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe (8.59m).
