KeyBank, the 17th largest retail bank in the US by deposits, has chosen MasterCard as the payment network for its new credit card products.

KeyBank, the retail banking arm of KeyCorp, has said it will launch the MasterCard brand cards at some point in 2013.

Beth Mooney, KeyCorp Chairman and CEO, said: "We are moving decisively in the credit card space with MasterCard as our trusted partner. We’re excited to leverage their expertise in the payments space and find ways to innovate together."

"Our payments momentum continues to build, as we expand our offerings for clients and strengthen our balance sheet."

KeyBank has previously worked with MasterCard on its debit cards and ATMs.

Chris McWilton, president of U.S. Markets at MasterCard said: "MasterCard has partnered with KeyBank for over 15 years, but I think the best is yet to come. We strive to be a strategic ally, supporting KeyBank through every stage of this process from diversifying new offerings to rewarding customers for all of their bank products."
