Australian lender Westpac is set to launch smartphones fingerprinting access for online banking beginning January next year.
Called Touch ID, the biometric log-in will enable clients to use their normal online access codes, a four digit PIN or a fingerprint.

Customers with smartphones can avail the fingerprint recognition that is available on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as Samsung’s S5 and Note 4.
Harry Wendt, Westpac digital head, said that the information from the fingerprint data would be encrypted on the smartphone itself to provide additional security.
In order to access this banking service, customers can use the specific device on which their fingerprint was encrypted.
Fingerprint access on iPhones is also available from Westpac NZ, St George and Bank of Melbourne, the subsidiaries of Westpac.
