Westpac New Zealand has successfully completed the trial run of an application which allows customers to log into mobile banking app using finger print scanning technology.
The trials were successfully tested on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and other smartphones.

The application first prompts the user to enter name and password, which is assessed by a security service, Online Guardian. If the credentials are correct, the app allows customers to swipe their fingers to login into the app.
Westpac New Zealand chief digital officer, Simon Pomeroy, was quoted by Computerworld Australia as saying that it hopes to have the option available for its customers in New Zealand in 2014.
"One of the key objectives of our digital strategy is to make banking faster and easier for our customers in the channels of their choice and we expect the Samsung S5 to be one of those.
"We are constantly looking at how we can make things easier and faster without increasing risk. The ease of use that the fingerprint scanner provides is another solution that simplifies access to mobile banking for our customers," Pomeroy added.
