US Bank, the country’s sixth-largest
bank, has become the first card issuer in the US to pilot a card
that allows customers to use a single card for traditional magnetic
stripe purchases, Visa payWave transactions and to gain access to
secure facilities.
The bank is currently piloting the programme
with employees in Minneapolis. Those involved in the trial can make
purchases and enter their secure work location using US Bank’s
AccelaPay Visa Card, a prepaid payroll account.
According to the bank, the use of one card for
identification, payments and secure access has the ability to
provide a unique solution in a number of instances, including
government, university, corporate, health care and
transportation.
