RBS and NatWest have launched a new service that allows customers to login to their mobile banking app using their finger print.

The banks, both part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, said that the feature would be available on the iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus.

Setting up the system will require customers to log in with their traditional security credentials but they can then set up the app to require only fingerprint information.

Making payments and other features will still require extra verification, and limits will be set on new payments.

According to the bank, nearly half of its 15 million customers actively use online banking, with over three million using the mobile app every week.

RBS and NatWest have 1.8million active iPhone users, of which 880,000 use an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.
