UK-based Tesco Bank will create 100 new technology jobs at its headquarters in Edinburgh and create new IT jobs at its Newcastle technology hub.

The company is hiring engineers, designers, data scientists, project managers and systems architects.

As part of a wider investment to boost online banking, it expects to add another 20 jobs at its Newcastle location. In November 2019, Tesco Bank announced its plans to create 20 jobs at Newcastle, which was positioned as the new “leading-edge technology hub”.

Tesco Bank chief operations officer David Bowerman was quoted by BBC as saying: “It’s an exciting time at Tesco Bank as we invest to develop propositions which better meet the needs of Tesco shoppers.

“We know there are deep talent pools in Edinburgh and Newcastle, and we hope to tap into these further.”

Scottish Finance Secretary Derek Mackay was quoted by BBC as saying: “This latest investment by Tesco Bank will further add to Edinburgh’s – and Scotland’s – appeal as a destination for highly-trained tech jobs, and help to create a more dynamic and innovative side to our financial sector.”
