Nationwide Building Society’s customers reportedly could not use online and mobile banking services yesterday, following a technical glitch that occurred after a scheduled overnight maintenance overran.

Nationwide spokeswoman Michelle Slade was quoted by Reuters as saying that the online bank and mobile banking apps were now back up and running.

"Unfortunately our overnight planned maintenance has overrun and is affecting customers accessing our online bank and mobile banking app," the customer-owned lender’s spokeswoman told the publication.

Assuring the bank’s customers, she said that they could still use ATMs and make Visa card payments.

The bank has already aplogised to the customers.

Serving approximately 15 million members, Nationwide operates as a top-three provider of mortgages, and a major provider of current accounts, credit cards, ISAs and personal loans in the UK.
