Revolut has set up a new division, Revolut Research, within its wider AI department to work on machine learning systems for financial services.

The unit will work with academic and technology partners and act as a common base for its internal AI tools and machine learning projects.

According to Revolut, the new division will support efforts to place internally built AI systems into its main financial infrastructure, using market data from different countries.

Revolut Research will underpin PRAGMA, a proprietary foundation model developed with NVIDIA.

The model is intended to interpret complex financial behaviour and support real-time risk checks, platform functions and more tailored product suggestions.

Revolut is reorganising its AI infrastructure around a single model and a shared behavioural intelligence layer.

Anton Repushko, head of Revolut Research, has presented research findings at several international conferences this year.

The company said early use of PRAGMA on historical data showed stronger results than older benchmarks. These included 2.3 times better accuracy in spotting credit default risk, 65% more fraud cases identified with 17% higher alert precision, and 41% more relevant product recommendations for retail and business customers.

Revolut said the models draw on data from 80 million customers in more than 40 markets.

Repushko said: “Revolut Research has been established to responsibly build financial intelligence at its deepest layer, rather than patching together narrow, specialised models.

“In PRAGMA, we are developing a single, unified foundation model capable of understanding the true nuance of financial behaviour in real time. Technology is in Revolut’s DNA, and by collaborating with global tech leaders, this division is engineering proprietary capabilities that set us apart from traditional banks.”
