Royal Bank of Scotland Group’s branch network in England, Wales and Scotland is to drop below 1,000 outlets once the latest 162 branches close.

RBS’ branch network will drop to a total of 854 outlets later this year comprising:

  • 650 NatWest branches in England and Wales;
  • 5 NatWest branches in Scotland;
  • 110 RBS branches in England and Wales (down from a current 272), and
  • 89 RBS branches in Scotland (although an additional 10 branches may yet remain open and are currently under review).

The latest branch closures mean that almost two-in-three RBS/NatWest branches will have closed since 2000.

At the time of the 2000 RBS acquisition of NatWest, RBS operated 650 branches; NatWest’s branch network totalled around 1,700.
