The Post Office is expanding its current accounts, which are offered in partnership with Bank of Ireland UK, to additional 81 branches in the East Midlands and East of England.
The current accounts offered by the Post Office include control, standard and packaged accounts. The expansion comes after the Post Office rolled out its current accounts at 29 branches in East Anglia in May 2013.
The addition of 81 branches takes the Post Office’s current account offerings to a total of 110 branches.
The Post Office entered into current account market to compete with major banks offering different financial services to customers.
The Post Office current accounts head, John Willcock, said the expansion is in line with their planned next steps into making their accounts accessible to thousands of customers who are looking for a credible alternative to their existing bank.
"The feedback from our customers in East Anglia has been really positive and the take up of all three accounts is in line with our expectations. Based on this, we are expecting customers in our new region to enjoy the benefits of banking with the Post Office," Willcock added.
