PNC Bank in the US has signed a deal with Sheetz, a family-owned and operated convenience chain, to provide in-store ATMs with surcharge-free access to all its stores spread across six states.

The lender will install more than 480 ATMs at Sheetz locations in Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Of the total number of ATMs, over 40 will have DepositEasy capabilities, which allows customers to cash cheques and deposit stacks of cash or cheques without an envelope throughout the week and year.

Sheetz CEO and president Joe Sheetz said customers have more do to, less time to do it and as a result are looking for the most efficient ways to get what they need.

"The PNC DepositEasySM capabilities give Sheetz an advantage because customers can come to our stores and accomplish many, if not all, of their daily tasks in one stop – just another way to provide great service for our valued customers," Sheetz added.

Customers will not be charged fees by the convenience store for using the PNC machines, but may be charged by their own bank, claims the company.

PNC Bank executive vice president Todd Barnhart said PNC and Sheetz have a longstanding relationship and are always looking for innovative ways to make things more convenient for their customers.

"The surcharge-free ATMs are a great benefit for all Sheetz customers and the convenience offered by the Sheetz locations further helps PNC customers to bank when and where they want," Barnhart added.

The ATMs will be installed in January and February 2014.
