The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a directive for the banks operating in the country to install anti-skimming devices on Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to minimise increasing instances of frauds.

The apex bank has set a deadline until 1 June 2014 for completion of the installation of anti-skimming devices on ATMs.

The chairman of Nigeria’s Committee of e-Banking Industry Heads (CeBIH) Chuks Iku was quoted by humanipo.com as saying, "For us as an industry, what we agreed to do is that all banks should have anti-skimming device on their ATMs and that will be effective June this year."

The apex bank warned that it would invoke appropriate sanctions on any bank for non-compliance with the directive.

Iku added that they are also working with Microsoft to comply with the transition from Windows XP to Windows 8 as Microsoft is poised to withdraw support for the operating system.
