National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) has reportedly hired former Barclays banker Suvrat Saigal as new head of its consumer banking business.

Saigal’s title at NBAD will be head of global retail banking, Reuters reported citing an undisclosed source.

Saigal, previously head of consumer banking at Barclays in India, will replace George Beatty, who resigned in January this year.

In 2009, Saigal joined Barclays in India from Citigroup, where he worked for 19 years in countries including India, Singapore, Japan, Australia and the US.

The hiring of Saigal is the latest in a series of appointments of staff with Asia expertise made by NBAD since Alex Thursby took over as group chief executive in April last year.

In September, the bank hired Susan Yuen, a former ANZ executive, to head its Asia business.
