British lenders NatWest and RBS have rolled out a new mobile savings account opening application, which will give instant access to open savings account in five minutes on their mobile.

With the latest application, customers of both NatWest and RBS using an iPhone or Android mobile can open and monitor a savings account through their mobile banking app.

NatWest and RBS, which offered this option for Instant Saver and Cash ISA accounts to iPhone customers, said approximately 112,000 customers have already opened savings accounts on their mobile.

Customers will see the option to open a savings account in their accounts or through the ‘more’ menu available in the Mobile Banking app.

NatWest and RBS savings head, David Crawford, said, "Our customers are changing the way they bank with us. They want to be able to service their everyday banking needs – including saving for a rainy day – where and when it is convenient for them."

RBS said that nearly 2.7 million of its customers are using the mobile app and approximately 2.7 million are using only the Mobile Banking app, Online Banking or both for their day-to-day banking needs.
