Nationwide Building Society innovation chiefs Jake Chambers and Daryl Wilkinson have revealed that they are leaving the firm to set up their own strategy and innovation services company.

The venture, named Lab12, will open in January 2016.

According to Lab12’s website, the company "will form innovative ideas, shape them into solid propositions and bring them to life by turning them into fantastic experiences that drive growth".

"We will work with organisations to infuse them with new energy, sharp focus and the skills needed to prosper in the Innovation Age. And we will provide the know-how and resources for them to think, act and deliver change with discipline and confidence," it added.

Chambers and Wilkinson co-founded and led Nationwide’s innovation unit, in charge of a multi-million pound budget dedicated to experimenting with and pioneering new technology, such as biometrics, wearable payments, and artificial intelligence.

Daryl Wilkinson spoke at Retail Banker International’s annual conference in May, giving one of the most well-received presentations of the day, by enabling the audience to download his presentation using Shazam.
