Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)’s sports sponsorship cut-backs will
not, as
RBI forecast in January, extend to its longstanding
association with Scotland tennis player Andy Murray.
Despite slashing its sports sponsorship budget
following its UK government bail-out, RBS has agreed a new
sponsorship deal with Murray, currently ranked number 4 in mens’
world tennis.
RBS has sponsored Murray since he was aged 13;
the lender also sponsors Murray’s brother Jamie.
RBS’ support for rugby’s Six Nations
championship was spared marketing cuts but RBS is no longer
involved in Formula One motor racing and has also cut back on
sports advertising and corporate hospitality spending.
