Bank of America’s
UK-subsidiary MBNA has rolled the first American Express branded
contactless credit card in the UK.
The introduction of
the American Express contactless cards, which will
support EMV technology, is an addition to MBNA’s existing
contactless cards portfolio on the MasterCard and Visa
networks.
MBNA will thus become the first bank to issue contactless
cards on all three networks.
MBNA said that the
American Express contactless cards will be issued to all customers
when acquiring a new or replacement cards.
MBNA’s contactless
card holders will occasionally and randomly be asked to enter their
PIN – a first in the contactless space – as part of MBNA’s promise
to safeguard customers’ financial security and payments will be
limited to £15 ($21.26).
