Malaysia’s Maybank has launched a new biometric authentication service for mobile banking on its Maybank2u app.

The service, known as Quick Touch, will enable customers to access their accounts and check balances by using fingerprints on their mobile devices for authentication.

Maybank claimed the new service is first of its kind in Malaysia, and forms part of the group’s strategy to boost its digital offering and meet customer demand for increasing convenience and transaction speed.

According to the bank, the service will speed up access to accounts by about 70% faster than traditional mode of keying in the six-digit PIN.

Quick Touch will be available on iOS devices supporting biometric capability, including iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, as well as can be accessed through the latest Apple watch.
