ING Netherlands has added a new biometric feature to its mobile banking app with the introduction of fingerprint authentication to authorize payments.
The fingerprint recognition service will be launched in two separate releases with the first one, released on 10 March 2014, enabling customers to log into the app with their fingerprint while the second update, expected before summer 2015, will enable customers to confirm payments through fingerprint recognition.
The service will be available to users having an iOS device equipped with Apple Touch ID.
ING Netherlands director internet and mobile Max Mouwen said: "The smartphone is becoming increasingly important for our customers when doing their banking.
"With the introduction of fingerprint recognition we respond to the feedback of our customers and make mobile banking even more easy. In an industry that revolves around trust, customer recognition and safety are crucial. Biometrics can be of added value."
