Dutch banking major ING has added contactless payments to its Android mobile banking app following a three-month trial in the Netherlands.
The mobile payments application, which is based on host card emulation (HCE) protocol, can be used to tap-and-pay at more than 100,000 stores throughout the country.
Those customers who have an Android smartphone running Android 4.4 or higher with NFC can download the app within a minute and activate it with their mobile pincode, the bank said in a statement.
Laurens Schretlen, manager cards & mobile payments at ING Netherlands, said: "We continuously try to make payments easier for customers, and this is the next step."
The bank added that it will offer the service free for six months, after which it will charge 50 cents per month for an unlimited number of transactions.
