ING has become the first bank in Europe to provide hands-free banking by introducing a voice control mode in its mobile banking app in the Netherlands.
The voice control mode, dubbed Inge, enables hands-free banking as an alternative to banking via a touch screen. The feature will be rolled out to a select group of customers in a phased manner.
Initially, ING customers will be able to start using Inge and their voice to check their bank balances or give payment orders as from mid-September 2014. Authorisation and logging on through voice recognition is expected to be introduced later this year.
Max Mouwen, general manager of internet and mobile at ING Netherlands, said: "Inge is a new way of making mobile banking easy for our customers. The feature makes it possible, for instance, to read out loud the requested IBAN number instead of typing it, which makes handling your banking affairs easier."
