British banking giant HSBC is not considering a sale of its business in Mexico, the bank’s CEO Stuart Gulliver told Mexican newspaper Reforma.

"The future of the Mexican economy is good and it doesn’t make any sense for HSBC to sell its banking operation in Mexico," Reuters quoted Gulliver saying to the Mexican newspaper.

"We have everything we need to compete from here," Gulliver added.

In February 2015, Gulliver identified Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and the United States as problem countries and disclosed plans to sell units in Brazil and Turkey during his investor day speech recently.
