HSBC Holdings has named Phillip David Ameen as new independent non-executive director to its board, effective 1 January 2015.

In addition, Ameen will also serve as a member of the group audit committee.

Ameen, who joined the board of HSBC North America Holdings in April 2012, currently chairs its audit committee and serves on its risk committee.

He also serves on the boards of the principal subsidiaries of HNAH as chair of their audit committees and as member on their risk committees.

Prior to joining HSBC, Ameen worked as Vice president, comptroller and principal accounting officer of General Electric Corp (GE). He began his career at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co (now KPMG), where he was most recently technical audit partner in the firm’s executive office.

Subject to re-election by the shareholders, the term of appointment of Ameen shall be for three years.

Ameen’s appointment will terminate at the conclusion of the Bank’s annual general meeting in 2018.

HSBC Group chairman Douglas Flint said: "He brings with him extensive financial and accounting experience gained in one of the world’s leading international companies as well as a depth of technical knowledge from his participation in the standard setting world."
